Sharks are known to have terrorised the hearts of people, many of whom are victims of traditional misconceptions and beliefs portrayed by the media.

I'm not from Australia, however,I a "shark enthusiast" and have been for many years. It's horrifying to me that so many countries are allowing these cruel and inhumane acts to be legal.
I also do find the "monitoring" of these acts to be insane as well. Shark finning, as well as others such as whaling should be banned across the board on a global scale. No if ands or buts.
I keep saying in comments made in save the shark type groups, that all the money in world won't do us any good if/when all the animals (wildlife and marine life) are gone. These animals are just being themselves.

If you want to swim in the ocean, you need to know the risks. Sharks, jellyfish, whales, dolphins, rays and other fish live there, we don't. If you're not willing to accept those risks, stay out of the ocean!

There are many people that have had encounters with sharks, surfers in particular, and they don't hold that against the shark. Sharks are just there doing what they do..being a shark. You can't condemn them for that. And the majority of surfers, heal up and are right back out there, doing what they do - surfing and loving the ocean.

They are all beautiful, unique, incredible, powerfully intense(in an "awe" sense) animals that are much needed in our oceans and really do need to be left alone.

Thank you Audrey for writing such an informative article. Hopefully it will help people become more aware and want to help stop these terrible acts from being commited by getting more involved. If nothing else, maybe it will make people rethink their fears.
I'm hoping..because they despirately need our help if they're going to survive.
People need to keep in mind, just because we don't understand an animal or are afraid of it, doesn't mean it should be killed.
